Booking and Mixing, Mixing and Booking
Hey Family and Friends!!
First of all THANK YOU!! With 21 days to go we are so close to our goal, closer than we ever thought we would be!! Your generosity and support have gotten us this far and we are truly grateful!
Thursday night was an exciting night for us as we got to hear the first "mixed" Marvins song from "Waves of Strange." Mixing is a hugely important part of releasing a cd. Mixing is a process that takes a song from a flat sound to a sound that is bright and shiny and new! It takes a great engineer, with a great ear, with an awesome studio. We have decided to work with our good friend Peter Jay, you may remember him from such moments as "Wow this is the best sound guy I have ever worked with!" at Callahan's Music Hall. Well turns out he is the best, with a Detroit Music Award to prove it! Thursday night after finishing up an awesome gig at Callahan's with our School of Rock students (where they played Green Day's Dookie and Led Zeppelin II in their entirety), Pete played our first mix of "Lost in Waiting" through the big house speakers. It was so awesome to hear how much the song was transformed by what he did! Cant wait for you to hear it too! Monday we go into the studio with him to put a little sparkle into all the tracks!! We are so excited, now we just have to book all these shows to share all this music!
So every morning I wake up, make a cup of coffee and sit at this computer researching cities that our train stops in, finding venues, cold calling uninterested bar owners, sending persuasive (yet mostly ignored) emails to venues that look cool, and constantly check my inbox to see if anyone has taken the bait and will book us. So you can imagine my happiness when one of those "yes" emails rolls in, especially when its from one of the coolest looking venues I had found!
The Root Note in La Crosse, WI is having us play Oct 6th! As I have said before I am so happy that we have decided to play in La Crosse, WI. This city looks like it has a great music scene, and it is right on the Mississippi with islands and all sorts of cool scenery, at least that's how it looks in my atlas. The Root Note looks like an awesome place to play with organic food and great beer, and a really nice stage. I know that a couple friends are thinking about hopping on the train with us from Chicago and Milwaukee, and I highly encourage you to be a part of this adventure any way you can! All you need is a couple days and a train ticket! Our friend Chris is traveling with us for a couple of these stops and were hoping he will join us on stage too so you can hear him sing with us.
